The theme for this year’s Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department’s Labor Day parade will be cancer awareness, parade chair Paul Jones informed the Skaneateles Town Board last week. “This dreaded disease has affected many members of our community and our department and we are pleased to help bring awareness to the fight to eliminate cancer,” Jones wrote in a letter to the board. Members of the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department are ready to help the community every day of the year. Now there are two days when the community can help them. The Skaneateles Fire Department’s annual field days will be held this year on Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2. They need help at their food concession from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. If you can give an hour or two of your time, it would be greatly appreciated. To volunteer, contact Mary Sennett at 685-1202 or [email protected].
Carol Baldwin, founder of the Carol M. Baldwin Cancer Research Fund, will be the guest of honor and ride in the department’s parade, schedule to begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2. During the entire two days of the department’s annual Field Days events, special shirts will be available and given to all community members who make a donation to the Baldwin Foundation. The hope is to have the entire Austin Park Pavilion filled with the sight of the shirts during the awards ceremony the evening of Sept. 2, Jones wrote. The schedule of events for the department’s annual Field Days also has been announced. All events are at Austin Park Pavilion: Saturday Sept. 1
