Each of the area’s boys indoor track and field teams would rack up points and victories during Wednesday’s CNY Counties League and Onondaga High School League championships at SRC Arena.
No one got closer to a title than Westhill/Bishop Ludden, whose 64 points left them second to Tully (74 points) in the OHSL Liberty/Patriot division. Solvay was fifth, with 57 points, as Marcellus tied for sixth with 48 points.
Westhill/Ludden’s Jack Honis posted the night’s fastest time in the 55-meter hurdles, winning in 7.76 seconds, and Corey Wilkinson beat everyone else in the shot put, too, by tossing it 46 feet 5 ¾ inches as teammate Tre Feisner (42 feet 6 ½ inches) was third.
As if that wasn’t enough, Honis teamed with Christian St. Amour, Owen Nicola and Mike Herholtz as Westhill/Ludden won the 4×400 relay in 3:41.09. Solvay was sixth in 3:58.72.
On his own, Herholtz got third place (10 feet) in the pole vault, while Mike Crisalli was fourth in the long jump and St. Amour was fourth in the 300-meter dash. Crisalli, Herholtz, Wilkinson and Nicola were third in the 4×200 relay in 1:42.80, where Solvay was fourth (1:43.02) and Marcellus sixth.
Solvay’s John Salvagno won the triple jump, going 39 feet 8 ¼ inches. He also took second (8.32 seconds) to Honis in the 55 hurdles, with Josh Marotti fifth and the Mustangs’ Adam Stottlar sixth, and added a second in the long jump with 18 feet 2 inches.
Also for the Bearcats, Nick Cometti rose to third in the 300-meter dash in 38.61 seconds. Luke Randall was fourth (41 feet 9 ½ inches) in the shot put as Marotti got fifth in the pole vault. Eric Goodrich got fourth-place (1:29.89) in the 600-meter run, with Matt Battaglia sixth in the 1,000-meter run.
Battaglia, Goodrich, Isaiah Lee and Mike Nicolini went to fourth place in the 4×800 relay in 9:22.93, edging Jordan-Elbridge in fifth (9:31.12) and Westhill/Ludden in sixth place.
Marcellus got plenty of points in field events, where Nate Waite won the long jump, beating Salvagno with a leap of 18 feet 10 ¾ inches. Rob Coon finished second in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet 6 inches, while Brian O’Connell topped 5 feet 6 inches for second place in the high jump.
Justin Garn took third in the 600 in 1:29.79, was fourth in the triple jump (38 feet 2 ¼ inches) and added a fifth in the 300. Joe Fallon ran to fourth in the 1,000-meter run (2:42.77) and fifth in the mile in 4:54.18, with John Bell fifth in the 1,000. J-E’s Steve Slonosky ran to third in the 3,200-meter event in 10:25.28.
Up in the CNY Counties League National division, West Genesee worked its way to 69 points, tying Baldwinsville for third place, but well off Cicero-North Syracuse, who won with 194 points.
Martin Leff won the 3,200-meter run, his time of 9:49.62 the only one in the field under the 10-minute mark as he beat C-NS’s Anthony Lupia by nearly half a minute. Leff also got third place in the mile in 4:35.55.
Peter Richardson sped to second in the 600 in 1:30.30, and also was fifth (9.40 seconds) in the 55 hurdles. Mark Reilly added a fifth (2:48.50) in the 1,000 as he, along with Jack Erhard, Ethan Osborne and Nate Conroy, were second (8:47.45) to C-NS (8:44.38) in the 4×800.
Luke Potash needed 36.99 seconds to finish a close second to Liverpool star Zavon Watkins (36.91) in the 300, as he, Erhard, Osborne and Wes Randall were fourth in the 4×400 in 3:44.85, with Randall, Potash, Richardson and Nico Rinaldo fourth (1:42.01) in the 4×200.
In field events, the Wildcats’ Peter James cleared 10 feet 6 inches to finish third in the pole vault. Mike Lannon had a fourth-place long jump of 17 feet 4 ¾ inches. Dylan Ulm was fifth in the shot put, tossing it 38 feet 9 inches, while Nick Garty was sixth in the triple jump.
