Excitement and suspense pervaded throughout the Liverpool boys swim team’s clash with Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA Wednesday night. With a record diving performance from Dan Roche and enough points in the other events, the Warriors edged the Red Rams 94-92. Roche, who had been steadily improving his scores all season, peaked here as he got 300.25 points, breaking the school mark for a single meet as he and Ethan Stallcup went 1-2 in the standings. Still, the meet was in doubt until the closing 400 freestyle relay. J-D/CBA won in 3:26.81, but Drew Henry, Liam Henry, Carl Tsang and Nick Burdo locked into second place in 3:35.10 as Marc Alessi, Trevor Thompson, Garrett Clarke and Dan Hens finished third (3:43.80) to secure the clinching points. Way back at the start of the meet, Alessi, Clarke, Troy Miller and Eugene Yoon earned first place in the 200 medley relay in 1:51.25. Two races later, Burdo dominated the 50 freestyle in 22.60 seconds, more than a second ahead of the field as Brian Alsever (24.85 seconds) took third. Clarke, who was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:14.08, got a key win later in the 100 breaststroke, where he finished in 1:04.17 and Alsever (1:12.17) was second. Liverpool was also 1-2 in the 100 backtroke, where Burdo won in 57.92 seconds and Alessi (1:04.97) was second. Liam Henry added a second in the 500 freestyle (5:46.53), while Miller worked his way to third (1:01.58) in the 100 butterfly. Cicero-North Syracuse met Baldwinsville last Tuesday night at Le Moyne College’s pool, staying close all the way, but unable to go in front during a 89-85 loss to the Bees. Billy Werksman earned his best diving total of the season, getting to 291 points, and also would prevail in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.47. Ricky Blackburn snared an early title when he swam the 200 freestyle in 2:00.83. And in the 200 freestyle relay, Blackburn, Ben Mozo, Dan Eager and Tim Hahn won in 1:40.62. Mozo also got second in the 100 freestyle in 51.71 seconds, half a second behind B’ville’s Dan Burke, who also claimed the 50 freestyle as teammate Zach Akers claimed the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
