To the editor:
The residents of the town and village of Skaneateles recently displayed an overwhelming respect for those who died from the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States. I am grateful for all the Skaneateles churches, the Skaneateles and Mottville Fire Departments, M&T Bank, the Skaneateles Falls American Legion, and Suzzanne Rapalski and Charlie Major who ran their school bells. The bells of St. Mary's church and the Baptist church were heard for the first time in over 50 years!
However, I am especially grateful to the members of the Skaneateles Area Arts Council (SKARTS) who provided me with the necessary funds to print the commemorative card that also played an important part in the ceremonies. Over 950 of these cards, with the photo of the Twin Towers under attack on the front and bell poem on the back, were passed out to area residents, and many were read in the services that were held that day.
