To the Editor:
The Skaneateles Historical Society recently held a fundraiser at the summer home of noted designer and TV personality, Thom Filicia. Everyone had a great time and the event was financially successful.
The funds raised will be used to help complete the expansion of the Museum at The Creamery. We can now display notable Skaneateles-made boats such as Lightning No. 1, a 1939 Comet, and early Bowdish and Skaneateles Boat and Canoe Co. skiffs and rowboats, in addition to expanding overall exhibit and research space.
We are sincerely grateful to Thom Filicia for granting unrestricted access to his beautifully designed and decorated home, and his help in organizing a wonderfully successful gathering of community members.
Many of those community members need to be recognized for their support as well, especially those who donated the significant auction items that drove the proceeds over the top, including Bill and Penny Allyn, Thom Filicia, Greg Calejo, Chip Davis, Mr. and Mrs. John Colhan, Steve and Bev White and the folks at Trump Soho NY.
We also want to recognize Mirabeau, The Sherwood Inn, Bluewater Grill, Prime Steak House Syracuse, Mandana Inn, Kabuki, Cate & Sally, Lady of the Lake B&B, The Village Bottle Shop, Simply the Best, Joelle’s Bistro, Echo off the Lake, Don Babcock, Mid-Lakes Navigation, Lucky Goat Soap, Carolyn Legg, Kihm Winship and J.W. Simmons for their raffle item donations, which were great fun, and added to the “take” significantly.
Then we must also thank our supplier sponsors including Wegmans, Doug’s Fish Fry, Anyela’s Vineyards, Pleasant Valley Wine Co., Lamoreaux Landing, Herron Hill and Dr. Frank Vineyards, Tops Friendly Markets, and Byrne Dairy. We were able to serve 200 people at practically no cost to us.
Our hard-working volunteer event committee headed up by Dave Miller must be recognized for their hard work and dedication, including Karlene Miller, Karen Lengyel, Bill Stinson, Bob Green, Joe Spalding, Bent Thomsen, Danielle Fleckenstein and Bev and Steve White. The Committee had the help of many other volunteers on event day, without whom, the party would not have been as much fun, and we thank them as well.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to your next Creamery visit and seeing you at our next event.
