— Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli and Van Buren Supervisor Claude Sykes recently viewed capital improvements that were recently completed at town facilities.

In April 2009, Van Buren officials appealed to the Assemblyman for help in securing funds for an emergency generator for the town hall and ADA ramp and doors for the parks and recreation department. Magnarelli subsequently secured $50,000 from NYS Community Capital Assistance Program to be used for two phases of projects. The first phase of the project included procurement and installation of a 35kw natural gas fired auxiliary generator, which, in the case of an emergency, would power the Van Buren town hall, a designated emergency Red Cross Shelter for use by citizens who may become displaced by a natural or man-made disaster. The second phase of the project included excavation and installation of approximately 40 feet of ADA accessible sidewalk ramp with handrails and procurement and installation of ADA compliant doors at the Parks and Recreation Department office.

Both projects were completed this August.
