Baldwinsville Setting off on another championship quest, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team breezed through its season opener Sept. 1, beating Syracuse East 7-0.
Playing against the combined team from Henninger and Nottingham, the Bees saw Amari Pollard and Taylor Ferrari both win 6-0, 6-0 singles matches over, respectively, Francine Yanchik and Domenica Wilson. Kahlei Reisinger beat Briana Bigby 6-0, 6-2.
Only two matches were contested in doubles. Hannah Mautz and Katherine Schumacher beat Cecily Thomas and Vivian Truong 6-0, 6-0. Also in straight sets, Shannon Hurley and Taylor Slink got a 6-1, 6-3 sweep of Lachelle Brown and Tilia Collins.
After that, the Bees did not play for more than a week, only returning on Friday to visit Liverpool. But the rest did nothing to slow B’ville’s momentum as it went out and ripped the Warriors 6-1.
Again, it was a singles sweep. Ferrari had to go through a first-set tie-breaker, but she beat Holly Glor 7-6, 6-3, while Pollard sailed past Nicolette Hamilton 6-1, 6-0 and Reisinger had a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kristina Monahkova.
Schumacher teamed with Kot to beat Sara Noll and Alexandra Reilly 6-1, 6-2. Mautz moved over to fourth doubles, helping Alexandra Meanor in a 6-2, 6-1 sweep of Hannah Foster and Sally Johnson.
Up in first doubles, Maddie Fiello and Colleen Morgan topped Erna Abadzic and Melissa Inch 6-1, 7-5. Even Hurley and Slink went to three sets before falling to Caitlin Corrice and Katey Padden 6-2, 4-6, 7-6.
B’ville would be at home on Tuesday, facing Auburn, before a Thursday trip to Oswego.
