Cazenovia To the editor:
Here in Cazenovia we are most fortunate to have outstanding people on both our town and village boards. Even more so, we have persons of both major political parties involved without the bickering and party line rancor we see so much in Washington.
Ralph Monforte, our current town supervisor, is one of these people who volunteer their time, experience and efforts to see that Cazenovia continues to be a remarkable place to live, do business and enjoy the natural benefits of this special community.
I have known Ralph for a long time as a prominent local business person who has supported the community in many ways starting with his efforts as president of the Cazenovia Lake Association.
In more recent years, he has become quite concerned with the loss of Cazenovia senior citizens who have moved away to take up residence in other locations that have available senior housing, a situation that is recognized in the Comprehensive Plan for the village and town of Cazenovia issued in 2008. Ralph raised funds for a follow-on Senior Living Study and started a series of focus group meetings verifying the interest of local citizens in such housing.
In the meantime he worked with the Madison County Industrial Development Association to successfully start improvements with the housing at 24 Nelson St.
He became Chairman of the Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce and utilized his high energy level and business know-how to initiate searches for businesses that might be interested in locating in the town and village of Cazenovia.
He has continued this effort in his position as town of Cazenovia supervisor. Ralph’s business experience and acumen has enabled him to attract such businesses as the new vineyard, a brewery, a long needed carwash facility and additional senior housing.
He has supported the effort to eliminate the milfoil in the lake and is working on a ‘Sewers Around the Lake’ program with the Lake Watershed Committee.
All this is a lot to do in the one two-year term he has held as town supervisor, especially when one considers his additional duties on the Madison County Board of Supervisors.
He has demonstrated success at all levels thus far, but deserves more time to complete this work. Vote for another term for Ralph Monforte on Tuesday, Nov. 8!
