LETTERS: DeWitt’s retiring highway super endorses Conte

To the editor:

I have had the privilege of working for the Town of DeWitt Highway over 35 years; the last 9 years I have had the honor of being the Highway Superintendent. I am writing to endorse Rocco Conte for the position of DeWitt Highway Superintendent, and encourage the residents of DeWitt to support him with their vote on Nov. 8. (His list of endorsements includes: Republican, Conservative, Independence and Veteran’s parties, as well as the Dewitt PBA).

Rocco "retired" from his successful business to join the highway department 12 years ago. He has held every position, including being my foreman the last four years. He consistently puts the needs of the residents first, and has demonstrated the ability to balance those needs against increasing fiscal challenges. He has earned the respect of the highway staff, Town staff, neighborhood watch groups, and homeowner associations. Rocco is a native of the East Syracuse-DeWitt area and very familiar with the challenges of our weather and landscape; he can be depended upon to anticipate and react to weather events; actions that ensure safety while minimizing disruptions for the traveling public. He has demonstrated the ability to think "outside the box” and will seek answers to move the department forward while keeping costs in check.

Thank you for all the support you have given me during my career with the Town. I hope you will join me and choose Rocco for your next Highway Superintendent.

Brian Maxwell, DeWitt Highway Superintendent
