Van Buren Justice Ed Van Der Water was selected as the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau's September Superstar.
Baldwinsville The Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau recently selected Van Buren Justice Ed Van Der Water as its September SCVB Superstar.
Each month, the SCVB selects a community member who embraces a passion for Central New York and who helps the bureau “sell Syracuse” by sharing their enthusiasm for the area with others.
Van Der Water’s enthusiasm and persistent efforts helped the bureau secure the 2012 New York State Association of Magistrates annual conference. More than 300 town and village justices are expected to attend the September 2012 conference at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and Conference Center, resulting in more than 700 total room nights and an estimated $287,000 in travel spending.
“We’ve been trying to bring the conference back to Syracuse for the past 10 years,” said SCVB Convention Sales Manager Lisa Metot. “Ed’s leadership in the association as past president made a significant impact on his fellow magistrates and his continued desire to bring the event back to Syracuse helped our team in presenting to the conference committee this year.”
Van Der Water also hosted several New York state judges so that they could experience the new Syracuse, as much has changed in the past 10 years.
“I wanted members of my association to experience all we have to offer including hospitality, sites to see and things to do,” Van Der Water said. “Because Syracuse is centrally located and accessible by air, rail and car, extreme travel times and costs for our members would be reduced. I was convinced our community could provide a memorable experience conducive to learning.”
