Buffalo-based Business First magazine recently ranked Cazenovia, Skaneateles and Fayetteville Manlius as the top three schools in the Syracuse area, based on standardized test score analysis.
Cazenovia ranked third out of the school districts in the Syracuse area, and ninth overall out of 431 Upstate New York districts.
“Our teachers and administrators have worked hard to continue to improve our instruction and prepare our students for both careers and college,” said Bob Dubik, Cazenovia Central School District Superintendent. “I think it’s an accurate reflection, because they based the list on student performance on Regents exams and state tests, over the course of three years.”
The magazine ranked the Pittsford School District in suburban Rochester number one in the state, followed by F-M; the Brighton School District in suburban Rochester; Williamsville School District in suburban Buffalo, and Skaneateles.
Business First rated each school district on its students’ annual performances, in grades 4 through 12, on 21 Regents exams and statewide tests from 2007 to 2010. Final scores are based on 172 statistical indicators.
Dubik credits the hard-working teachers, students and staff, as well as supportive parents and community organizations for allowing the district to set itself apart form others in the area and continue its “tradition of excellence and equity.”
Business First examined four areas of study and ranked schools accordingly.
Cazenovia was ranked fourth in science, ninth in mathematics, eleventh in social studies and twenty-first in English-foreign languages.
Business First’s Upstate standings are posted on their website.
Not only have Cazenovia students performed well academically, but athletically as well. Coming of a string of state championships last year, the both the field hockey and girls cross country teams are Section III champions this year.
