Girls volleyball Bees advance to AA final

B'ville has one-sided sweeps of Corcoran, Oswego

— Two easy victories have put Baldwinsville's girls volleyball team within reach of yet another Section III Class AA title.

Hosting no. 8 seed Corcoran in last Tuesday’s AA quarterfinal, the Bees used long point streaks to post a 25-8, 25-8, 25-4 sweep of the Cougars.

Sarah Klaben and Paulina Rein supplied the power, with eight kills apiece. Emily Walser added five kills, while Liz Giromini had nine digs, to go with three kills and two aces and Danielle Sayler added three aces and five digs.

Maureen Thayer, with 16 assists and five aces, and Shannon Albright, with 13 assists and three digs, split back-line duties.

In Friday night’ semifinal against no. 4 seed Oswego, the Bees again won the opening set 25-8 and proceeded to sweep the Buccaneers by going 25-11 in the second set and 25-15 in the third set.

Albright produced 23 assists, plus three aces and six digs. Klaben amassed 13 digs, three aces and three kills as, up front, Sydnie Hamm earned eight kills and four blocks and Allegra Bell had six kills, plus three blocks.

Giromini managed 10 digs, with Rein getting five kills and five digs. Sayler also had five digs, with Lagoy producing four kills and two blocks.

B’ville will face CNS on its home court in Wednesday night’s AA final, this after the Northstars rallied to beat Fayetteville-Manilus in five sets in the other semifinal match. The match starts at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the boys AA final between B'ville and top seed Oswego.
