It was a challenging game for the Cazenovia Pop Warner C-Team Lakers as they lost against the Holland Patent Knights 14-7, on Oct. 23.
The game started with the Lakers defense, Drew Johnson, Hunter Marshall, Teddy Koppers, Josh Maxwell, Isaac Senehi, Aiden Houseman, Joe McLaughlin, Keegan Bailey and Thomas Fabbioli, causing a quick Knight fumble which was recovered by Ian Fostveit.
The Lakers were unable to score on the opportunity as the ball was returned to Knights. After two quick touchdowns and extra points, the score was 14-0 in favor of the Knights, at the end of the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, the Lakers went to work trying to even up the score. The defense held the Knights scoreless with play stopping tackles by Ryan Wozniak, Casey Cunningham and Cole Basic, while the offense with first down runs by Tiernan Tormey, Robbie Liddell and Kevin Ammann pushed the ball down the field. A tough Knight defense kept the score to 14-0 at the end of the half.
The third quarter brought the Lakers offense, Zach Slocum, Jake O’Sullivan, Nicolas Claxton, Connor Riedl, Mitch Perrone, Connor Fry and Logan Proctor, driving down the field and fighting for a touchdown. An aggressive Knight defense stopped the Lakers just short of the goal line.
The hard-hitting Laker defense, Jacob Wells, Chad Carges, Ben Knutsen and Brian Westfall, went to work at the beginning of the fourth quarter causing yard losing plays for the Knight offense.
With the ball back into the Lakers hands, a successful run by Jack Spingarn led to a touchdown by James Pavelchak. The extra point run was completed by Dan Hammond, leaving the final score at 14–7, cementing the Knights’ win.
