Skaneateles is a destination known for many events and opportunities, and it’s fair to say that visiting a psychic is not one of them. Yet in town there is a professional “intuitive counselor” who offers tarot card readings, tarot numerology, chakra evaluation, spirit guide readings and spiritual counseling.
It’s a combination of spirituality, counseling and entertainment rolled into one, and it is doing a brisk and serious business.
“I provide insight into situations that people may not have; I also give confirmation for things people may already know, such as whether or not to get out of a relationship, for example,” said Cindy Griffith, who offers psychic services out of her Skaneateles home. “I never tell people what to do; that’s not my job. I provide insight. I try to empower people to help them to trust what they are already feeling.”
Griffith is an internationally known psychic with clients in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., London, Argentina and Australia. She and her psychic work have been featured on television, radio and in newsprint, and she and her husband hosted their own radio talk show, “Spiritual Simplicity,” on VoiceAmerica.com.
She also co-authored a recently-released book with her husband David, “Voyage of Purpose: Spiritual Wisdom from Near-Death Back to Life.”
Griffith holds a bachelor’s in spiritual counseling and healing, is a graduate of the three-year Metaphysical Teachers Training Program and a certified integral healing method facilitator. Her writings have been published in various publications, and she currently is writing her book “Meditation for Real People” and pursuing a master’s degree in consciousness development.
“Why do I do what I do … I find it is the best way that I have to be of service,” Griffith said. “When people come to a psychic they can take it in or treat it as light hearted. Either way they get to hear what they need to hear. But the seed is still planted.”
Griffith started as a self-taught psychic in her late 20s when she bought herself a deck of tarot cards and “just started playing.” Se said she was an atheist at the time, but as she delved deeper into psychic experiences she realized there was “a higher … something”
At age 30, she started to read numerous books and more seriously study the field involving psychic and intuitive abilities and skills.
Now 50, Griffith uses her talents as an intuitive to offer interested people tarot card and spirit guide readings, tarot numerology, chakra evaluation and spiritual counseling.
These readings, Griffith said combines her intuition and connection to her spirit guides, offer various information to her clients. Tarot card readings give insight into day-to-day matters such as relationships, career, finances, family, and health; spirit guide readings connect people with their spirit guides who can answer questions about spiritual growth; chakra and energy readings look at a person’s energy field and offer ways to improve a person’s “energy system.”
Griffith says her readings are “positive and empowering” to her clients, and even though this is a business, she is interested in assisting people with her insight more than the money. “I’d rather you be happy with the 15 minutes you need rather than the 30 minutes that cost more money,” she said.
But while the job of psychic may seem strange to some people, Griffith has a steady clientele. Most of her in-person business comes from Auburn, although she does have a number of Skaneateles clients. During the summer she gets a lot of tourists, a lot of guests from Mirbeau and even does parties.
“When you’re in a place that’s fun to go to like Skaneateles, people will come,” Griffith said. “Often people come for the fun of it, but then they do ask serious questions.”
But in this age of modern technology, a majority of Griffith’s work now takes place online, such as through Skype or by telephone. “I’d say about 80 percent of my readings are by telephone,” she said. “I’m not in your space; I don’t have to be in your space. I look at your aura the way your energy flows not through my eyes, but through my inner eye.”
People may be surprised to know there actually is quite a large spiritual community in Central New York, Griffith said, and she — and her husband, now promoting their new book — like to help promote the benefits of learning and experiencing the spiritual life and spiritual community.
