The canoe and kayak dock is open on weekends at Beaver Lake Nature Center. Volunteers age 16 and older are needed to assist patrons with picking out paddles and life vests. Shifts are available from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 12:45 to 5 p.m. Beginning July 1, the canoe dock will be open daily so check the available shifts for the summer. Spring cleaning? Lend a hand to an elderly neighbor whose yard needs to be cleaned up or their windows washed. Have items that could be used by others? PEACE County West Family Resource Center in Nobles Plaza makes items available at no charge to families in need. There is also another organization called Give To Others, which provides an online way for you to give your unwanted items to charitable organizations in need of them - visit givetoothers.com and click on "donate an item."

Looking for that flexible way to volunteer? Even for those whose lives may be too hectic to commit to anything time consuming, there are a number of small ways to make a big difference such as:

    take the time to sign an organ donor card;

share some of your hair by donating it to locks of love;
