Girl Scout Troop 759 raises funds for trip

In the parking lot of the old fire station on Fennel Street, members of Girl Scout Troop 759 stood in the drizzle and sang songs, hopeful to entice potential customers to their bake sale and bottle drive. Mary Lambdin, Abbie Scala, Nikk Bennett, Sara Cox and Schuyler Bennett are trying to raise enough funds to pay for a trip to Hershey Park, Pa. in June.

"They've been selling baked goods, arts and crafts along with having a bottle drive," said Assistant Troop Leader Chandler Dickinson who was overseeing the scouts. "The girls are doing it all themselves; you can't go door to door with this kind of thing and it's not like parents taking a 'cookie order sign up sheet' to work."

One customer looked up at the rainy sky and admired the young entrepreneurs; commenting about how bakes sales and charity ticket sales used to be held indoors in the lobby of the local food store.
