J-D girls lacrosse topples ESM again

For the second time in as many weeks, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls lacrosse team would get the best of its neighborhood match-up with East Syracuse-Minoa.

In Thursday's match-up (delayed from earlier in the week by more rain), the Red Rams withstood all of the Spartans' comeback attempts and won 14-11, a result nearly identical to the 13-10 game J-D won at ESM Stadium just nine days earlier.

Unlike the first game, played on clean turf, they were on the Red Rams' grass field now, and it didn't really give the Spartans too much trouble as it stayed right with J-D all through the contest.

Still, the Rams sneaked into a 7-6 halftime lead, and it gradually built on that margin behind the trio of Taylor Fallon, Lauren Beville and Taylor Bierwagon.

Fallon backed up her three goals with five assists as Beville and Bierwagon each scored four times, Bierwagon adding two assists. Lauren Swan managed two goals and one assist as Ally Loewy also converted.

ESM had a well-balanced approach, with Rachel Toole earning three goals and one assist. Close behind her, Nikki DeVona, Marlee Vlassis and Alyssa Anderalli each produced two goals and one assist, with Alayna Davis also finding the net twice. Alex McEachron added an assist.

Before this latest delayed meeting, both teams played on Tuesday - and both won, J-D ripping Whitesboro 18-8 and ESM working past Fulton 11-5.

In the Red Rams' game against the Warriors, it put together one of its best offensive efforts of the season, nine goals in each half as it steadily built a double-digit margin.

Fallon had a career-best six goals, adding an assist as \\Bierwagon picked up three goals and four assists. Beville and Caitlin Cariseo matched each other with three goals and two assists, while Natalie Antosh and Olivia Ferlenda also scored. Kayleigh Cavanaugh added a pair of assists.
