Marcellus, Tully girls lacrosse teams play for cancer research Thursday

Every 11 minutes, breast cancer claims another life.

Just a few years ago, one of those lives was beloved Tully resident and parent Patricia Bailey. The Tully and Marcellus School communities will partner with the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY to counter this statistic in upstate New York.

At 7 p.m. Thursday May 19, the Tully varsity girls lacrosse team will host the nearby Marcellus girls in an Under the Lights Benefit Game to combat breast cancer in loving memory of Patricia Bailey. All ticket sales, chicken barbecue, concession sales and many other fundraisers prior to and during the game will go to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY to allow researchers to learn more about this disease. The Tully Teachers Association will also be encouraging chaperones to turn over their stipends for the evening to this worthwhile cause.

To date, the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund has awarded more than nearly 30 research grants in upstate New York totaling in excess of $1 million to medical research.

"Together We Will Find a Cure!" is the message Carol Baldwin and her family bring to you, because they believe it. The host team will be wearing pink jerseys (donated for this event) to visually signal their support for research in this area.

Community members and organizations in each of the two communities are challenged to add their own fundraisers to game contributions to make this competition an event from which all will emerge as winners. Tax deductible contributions should be made payable to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, Inc. and mailed to the office of either school. The total raised for this event will be announced at halftime
