CBA writers succeed in competition

Congratulations to several Christina Brothers Academy students for their recent achievements in creative writing and theater:

CBA swept the Syracuse Penwomen Poetry Contest in the high school division, as Corinne Gavigan took first, Mary Fletcher took second and Rhiannon Randall took third.

Kathleen Kirkman was awarded an honorable mention in the English Speaking Union's Shakespeare Competition finals held at Syracuse Stage. She finished in the top six out of 142 local competitors after delivering her monologue and sonnet.

From more than 100 entries, CBA creative writing students Nate Goebel, Rhiannon Randall, Anthony Carno and Jane Kallmerten were selected as semi-finalists in the Syracuse Stage Young Playwrights Festival, sponsored by Syracuse Stage. These students went on to participate in a series of writing workshops to revise their work. Finalists will have their work staged at the festival.

In addition, each play was student-produced and fully stage by CBA's Drama in Action class on May 6.
