Much like the regular season that preceded it, the Skaneateles girls track and field could handle the entire Onondaga High School League Liberty division - with one big exception.
In Monday's cold, wet OHSL Liberty championship meet at Marcellus, Skaneateles finished with 101 points, topping everyone except Cazenovia, who prevailed with 195 points. Westhill/Bishop Ludden was third with 77 points.
Skaneateles did finish on top in the 4x400 relay, where Anna Barnett, Erin Tonzi, Aine Rooney and Taylor Woodruff edged Cazenovia by less than a second, 4:18.79 to 4:19.32.
And in the pentathlon, the Lakers' Gabby Eckles roared to the top, earning 2,061 points to finish 99 points ahead of Cazenovia's Raeanne Clabeaux. Freshman Kiara Corcoran stepped up, too, covering the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.19 to beat Solvay's Anna Salvagno (1:13.67) for the top spot.
Kaela Fiutak won the pole vault, the only athlete to clear 8 feet, as he also got fifth in the long jump (14 feet 4 inches) and Tonzi gained fifth (30 feet 3 inches) in the triple jump after running to third in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.71.
Caroline Walton, with a discus throw of 97 feet 3 inches, took a close second to Hannibal's Mary Lenhart (97 feet 8 inches), while Katie Wisniewski (75 feet 3 inches) was third. Walton also took third in the shot put with a toss of 32 feet 3 inches.
Virginia Hamlin ran to fourth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:38.72. Molly McCarthy claimed fifth in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 100-meter dash.
In the 4x100 relay, Fiutak, Amelia O'Hara, Molly McCarthy and Nikki Cole finished third in 55.47 seconds, with Tonzi, Madeline Adams, Danielle Mazzeo and Julia Poorman third (10:07.01) in the 4x800 relay. Adams, on her own, rose to fifth in the 3,000-meter run as Mazzeo was sixth in the 800-meter run.
