Trudy Scarr has been appointed as the new director at the Athenaeum of Skaneateles. Originally from West Virginia, Scarr has been a resident of Skaneateles for over 15 years. Scarr is a registered nurse and has extensive experience in home care from Perigrine Health Management. The senior living residence is currently home to 12 seniors with accommodations for up to 16.
"The reason for my being in health care management comes from my own experience with my parents," said Scarr. "I saw the difficulty in taking care of family members and loved ones which can be a struggle for all members of the family."
Scarr said the effort in taking care of seniors doesn't seem like work in a facility like the Athenaeum, and is very rewarding. The residence offers chef-prepared meals, activities and outings and a full spa with a salon. High school students often drop by to entertain residents.
"I love coming to work everyday and seeing everyone," Scarr said. "It's like being part a large wonderful family."
