Students from the Institute of Technology competed in the annual SkillsUSA vocational/technical area competition held at SUNY Delhi.
Brittany Dicth, an ITC senior, took first place in photography as she demonstrated her ability to use digital SLR's, image editing software (Adobe Photoshop) and professional studio lighting. She performed on-site photography, portrait studio lighting & posing, process and print digital photos. Each contestant was evaluated on their mastery of entry-level job skills.
Christian Nunez, also a senior, took 3rd place in advertising design. This tests the students' technical skills and creative aptitude as though contestants worked for an ad agency. In addition to a written test, competitors re-created a given advertisement on the computer. Competitors were judged on their accuracy, proficiency with industry standard software and ability to meet the given deadline. Contestants also competed in a creative portion of the competition. The creative portion involved the application of creative thinking and development of a design problem. Layout, drawing and illustration skills were used, as well as their ability to create vibrant, effective designs using the computer.
