The East Syracuse Minoa Board of Education will meet again at 7 p.m. Monday April 4 in the East Syracuse High School library to discuss the 2011-12 budget. Superintendent Donna DeSiato said specific areas of reduction and positions will be addressed before the board adopts the budget.
"We will be more informed on Monday as a result of having revised state aid numbers as well as any potential resignations or retirements, which factors into our discussion and the decisions," she said. "We are sensitive to the fact that things can change very quickly, which is why we have refrained from offering specific positions until we have a clearer picture of possible retirements/ resignations, revenue restorations, etc."
Many district residents who went to the March 21 BOE meeting expressed concern that DeSiato did not disclose specific proposed cuts in programs or positions.
DeSiato said the administration anticipates the budget process will be finalized for the board's review by April 4. Once all positions affected are identified and presented to the board for review and approval, and the affected individuals have been formally notified, the resulting information will be made available to the public.
"I believe this is reasonable and fair to the people who might be impacted by the budget," DeSiato said.
A public hearing will be held on the budget at 7 p.m. Monday May 9. Budget vote day is on Tuesday May 17.
