Looking back over the last four years, I am proud of our accomplishments in village government, yet mindful that as a village, we continue to face new challenges in the midst of carrying out the progress and initiatives we currently have underway. In identifying these challenges, I have sought out three candidates uniquely qualified to serve the village. The Citizen's Party candidates include current Trustee Mark Wilder, Trustee candidate Mike Shepard and Judge candidate John Murphy, Jr.
Trustee Mark Wilder's passion for the village coupled with his wealth of environmental remediation knowledge as a geosciences manager with EPS of Vermont Inc. has been an invaluable resource to the village. The reelection of Mark Wilder as trustee will remain integral to the village's progress in management of the redevelopment of village owned property along Lock Street. In addition, Mark has begun to focus his efforts on revisiting our wellhead protection district in an effort to protect our water source.
Trustee candidate Mike Shepard is eager to serve this village and for an opportunity to further the progress we have made. He will be focused on attracting private investment in the business districts while protecting the distinctive character of our village. Mike will bring his enthusiasm and fresh perspective to foster a positive environment on the board. Having grown up in the village, Mike has seen the transformation of a waterfront community that underutilized it biggest asset, the river, to a community that has embraced its history as an important destination along the NYS Barge Canal.
Our court has broad jurisdiction over many matters and plays an important role in defending the quality of life in the village. John Murphy, Jr. is an excellent judge candidate with 20 years experience as a practicing attorney and his expertise in handling felony, misdemeanor, traffic, and eviction cases, including trials at three levels will serve us well. He also has vast experience in civil matters in both town and county Supreme Court. John is admitted to practice before all of the courts of the state of New York and was admitted to the U.S. Supreme court. John is a member of the Oswego and Onondaga county bar associations as well as the New York State Bar Association. John permanently moved to Baldwinsville in 1990. Since that time, he has volunteered as a youth basketball coach, Little League coach, Elder and committee leader for his church. John's father-in-law, Dan Stevens was a trustee of the village and helped found the Kiwanis Turkey Day race.
