Baldwinsville: Figure skating club takes first

The Syracuse Figure Skating Club, out of the Greater Baldwinsville Ice Arena in Lysander, received first place at the Oswego Port City Invitational hosted by the Oswego Figure Skating Club.

The 14th Annual Port City Invitational was held Jan. 21 and 22. Sixteen teams from Canada, Binghamton, Camillus, Center State, Cicero, Clinton, Cortland, Fulton, Genesee, Oswego, Salmon River, Skaneateles, St. Lawrence, Syracuse, Thomas Creek and Watertown competed in the two-day event. The Syracuse Figure Skating Club had 14 skaters compete in individual events and three skaters compete in the synchronized skating segment of the competition. The 14 skaters received points for each place they received in the competition, which includes a wide variety of disciplines from freestyle skating, compulsory moves, teams events, dances, showcases and synchronized skating. Once these points were tallied, the Syracuse Figure Skating Club was determined the winner of the competition and received a first place trophy. The members range in age from 5 to 18 years old.
