I have been privileged to serve our village as a trustee since 2005 and as deputy mayor for the past two years. After many years of dedicated service, our current mayor, Tom Dougherty, will be stepping down at the end of this month.

Given the many issues and opportunities facing our village and broader community at the moment and the value of continuity and experience in meeting those challenges, I hope to continue my service as your next mayor. I will be very grateful for your support on June 21 at the polls and beyond as we all work together for the best possible outcomes for the community we love.

We are fortunate to have a highly dedicated team of village employees, elected and appointed officials currently serving our community with great effectiveness. I hope to maintain and build on a number of current successes. These strengths include fiscal responsibility and good stewardship of our finite resources as well as good care of our existing infrastructure and equipment to maximize its lifespan.

We have fostered a relationship of effective cooperation and communication with the Town of Cazenovia and other local partners based on shared goals with regard to the lake, shared services and other vital topics. We have also cultivated a spirit of interactive, truly open government. Residents have the opportunity to learn about local decisions as they are crafted and their input has helped us to make more effective policies.

I hope to tap into the rich pool of talent we enjoy as a community, to proactively address the numerous issues we face. One of the most pressing challenges will be an era defined by an increased need for investment in our aging infrastructure with declining resources available from the state and federal government.

The Clark Street bridge closure serves as a visible symbol of this predicament. We must also strike an effective balance as we pursue sensible opportunities for economic development while maintaining the heritage and environment that we all treasure. We must remain open-minded as we seek the best strategies to provide the high-quality services we have come to expect in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

Your support, as I work with other members of our village team to serve the community to the best of our ability, will be sincerely appreciated. Please take time to vote on June 21 to demonstrate your continued support for citizen involvement as well as open and effective local government.
