Learn basic recreational and flat water kayaking from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday June 23 (classroom session) at the old Lysander Park office and from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday June 26 at Mercer Park (water session). This class will offer instruction in proper paddling skills and self-rescue. All students will also learn how to recognize potential safety hazards, how to select, transport, care for and store a kayak. You will also be taught the differences between and advantages/disadvantages of the various makes and models of kayaks and how to use many of the accessories available for safe and enjoyable kayaking. The class will benefit those with no experience and those interested in improving their skills. Must take both the classroom and water session. Kayaks will be provided. This course, held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday June 18 at the Baldwinsville Public Library, will include: planning for a babysitting job, knowing what to expect of children, selecting toys and games, supervising children, preventing accidents, giving First Aid, rescue breathing, caring for infants and children and feeding them. Students (both boys and girls) who complete the course will receive a resource book full of pertinent information, an emergency reference guide and a CD ROM with valuable tools. They will also receive a certificate of completion. Students should bring a lunch and something to write with and must be 11 years old before the program starts.
Youth golf lessons
This is a beginner level golf clinic held from 5 to 6 p.m. (6 to 12 years olds) and 6 to 7 p.m. (13 to 18 year olds) Tuesdays from June 28 to July 19 at Timber Banks Golf Course. Youth golf clubs are available through the Sticks for Kids program, loaned on a first-come, first-serve basis with a security deposit of $50 (limited to the first 10 golfers) for the duration of the course.
