Beaver Lake Nature Center and Eastern Mountain Sports got a modest turnout for their "June Kayak Day" on June 12, possibly due to intermittent rain.
But some boaters would not be held back from exploring the possibilities of a new kayak despite the weather. Among the attendees were visitors from Auburn and Central Square.
Kayaks have much to recommend them according to one EMS employee.
Whereas canoes take teamwork, kayaks offer a more personal approach to the water, said EMS worker Kate Goloski.
"I like how much control you have when you're in the boat," she said. "If you are looking to go out on your own they are a lot of fun."
The day offered equipment and kayaks offered at a discount and free test drives of kayaks on Beaver Lake for those interested. Refreshments were also provided by the Friends of Beaver Lake.
