Political newcomer Gwyn Mannion, of Manlius, officially announced June 9 that she is running for a seat on the County Legislature, District 10.
Her opponent, Republican incumbent Kevin Holmquist, is running for his fourth term in office.
Mannion, an engineer with SRCTec, has served on various boards, including A Better Chance, the East Area YMCA (of which she is still a member) and the Metropolitan Y. She is currently the co-chair of the Museum of Science and Technology's capital campaign and current foundation board president.
Mannion said she is turning to politics now in order to continue to build on her deep community involvement.
"There are many aspects of county government, which touch each of us every day and I want to turn my experience and energy to helping improve the quality of life in Manlius," she said. "'Government efficiency' aren't just buzz words, they are words to live by and it is important the County Executive Joanie Mahoney has partners in the legislature who want to make that happen.
Mannion will pass petitions over the next few weeks. The newly proposed 10th legislative district includes primarily the town of Manlius.
