Car crash leaves one in critical condition

A car crash on East Colvin Street in DeWitt yesterday injured two drivers, leaving one in critical condition. Just after 4 p.m. June 6, the DeWitt Police Department, along with other emergency responders, were called to the scene.

David White, 55, was on East Colvin Street facing eastbound, in his blue Subaru, when Terence B. Kelly, 39, of 201 Oxford Place in Syracuse, drove his red Jeep Grand Cherokee into the rear of White's vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed. According to police, White's vehicle was pushed up the hill into a block retaining wall and White had to be extricated. Kelly's vehicle continued up the hill, crossed the roadway, struck a culvert rolling the Jeep onto its roof and continued to slide toward the top of the hill.

Both drivers were transported to University Hospital. White is currently listed in critical condition.

Kelly was released from the hospital with minor injuries and is currently being charged with vehicular assault in the second degree, DWAI Drugs, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree. He was arraigned at DeWitt Town Court and is being held on $100,000 cash/bond bail.

The investigation is continuing and further charges may be pending.
