Baldwinsville pastor celebrates one year at Faith Baptist

Pastor John Stevenson of the Faith Baptist Church has nothing but praise for the community after spending his first year in Baldwinsville.

"We love it here, the people are wonderful," Stevenson said referencing the canal walk as one of his favorite spots around town.

Despite his affection for Baldwinsville, this will not be his final stop he explained.

"We move about every three years, helping various churches get back on their feet," he said.

Stevenson most recently moved from Erie, Penn. as he and his wife tour the region lending a hand to churches in need.

The Faith Baptist Church had been without a pastor for a number of years before Stevenson arrived. He explains that his ability to work as an unpaid Pastor helps the church regain some of their financial footing.

Since Stevenson took over, the church has welcomed at least 20 new members and the enrollment of the Christian Academy has increased by 41 percent. When the church is financially stable, the Baldwinsville Christian Academy also prospers Stevenson said.

"These are astounding numbers to see after only a year," he said.

In his seventh year of being a pastor, Stevenson said he would like to see the members of his congregation to not only be involved in the religion, but also to become students of the Bible. He also wants to teach his members to love one another openly and freely.

The Faith Baptist Church is located at 7312 Van Buren Road. Sunday services begin at 11 a.m.
