Van Buren Parks and Recreation programs: Family Swim

Two evenings of open swimming for all ages will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 10 at Baker High School pool. Youth ages 16 or younger must have a parent accompany them to the program. Children younger than 8 years must have a parent with them in the water. Shower facilities and changing areas are available, but no lockers. Lifeguards will be on duty during the program. The fee is $1.50 per person, payable each night at the pool.

Family Ski Day

A Family Ski Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 23 at Four Seasons Golf and Ski Center. Lift ticket/trail fee is $15 for the day (paid to the parks and recreation department). If equipment and/or a lesson is needed, Four Seasons has a lesson and rental package available for cross-country or downhill skiers for $27 per person (paid at Four Seasons).

Advanced registration is a must and space is limited.

Snow Tubing at Four Seasons

Four Seasons will offer an evening of snow tubing from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday Feb. 24 for $13 per person (paid to the parks and recreation department). Those wishing to tube must use Four Season's equipment - you may not bring your own tubes. Advance registration is a must.

Boater Safety Course

Available to those ages 10+, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's America's Boating Course will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday March 5 and Sunday March 20 (only one session required for course completion) at the Van Buren town hall. This class is aimed at training the public on the subject of safety on the water and will cover material to educate boaters in all safe boating practices. Participants must pass an exam to receive their certification. Advance registration is a must, $35 fee for the program. Space is limited.
