Battle of the Bands to rock the JCC this Saturday

The Ninth Annual Battle of the Bands is coming to the Jewish Community Center at 7 p.m. Saturday Jan. 15 in the Schayes Family Gymnasium at the JCC Neulander Sports and Fitness Center, 5655 Thompson Rd. in DeWitt. High school bands representing several local schools will come together for one rockin' good competition.

This year's Battle of the Bands will be formatted much like previous years events. There will once again be up to 10 bands in the competition with each band having a half hour to set up and play. The judges will then rate them on musical talent, stage presence, overall performance, and audience response and decide which band takes home the $200 cash prize. This year the event will be sponsored by 93Q, represented by DJ Brandon C, who will be one of the judges at the event. The event is also going to be supported by SubCat Records who will be represented by partner Ron Keck who will judge the bands as well. The third judge will be Liam DiCosimo, co-owner of Aux Records & Aux Management, as well as singer for the band, Honor Bright.

In addition to a $200 cash prize this year's winning band will receive a 6 hour demo package from SubCat Recording Studios and they will have the opportunity to play on-air live on 95X.

Admission is $6 for general view, $9 for VIP view which gives attendee the opportunity to see the band from above the stage. All types of music have been showcased in the past and prior winners of the battle have gone on to have successful musical careers. Last year's event featured Ska, rock, acoustic, cover bands, punk, jazz and hardcore so the event will have something for all musical tastes. For every student that attends, $1 of the admission price is donated back to the school's student council.
