One more honor came to Baldwinsville senior Brianna Stewart in the wake of her leading the girls volleyball Bees to its first-ever state Class AA championship.
Stewart was named the top Individual Female Athlete with a "Believe to Achieve" award from the Syracuse Sports Corporation, handed out in a ceremony last Tuesday at LeMoyne College.
As the Bees' chief setter the last two seasons, Stewart helped the Bees win back-to-back Section III titles and twice reach the state tournament at Glens Falls Civic Center. In 2010, that led to a title as B'ville beat Webster Thomas in a five-game classic.
Stewart had 265 assists, 16 kills and 31 aces in the 2010 regular season, and notched 56 assists, five blocks, four kills and two digs during the state tournament.
Other "Believe to Achieve" honors went to state championship teams from Skaneateles (boys soccer) and Cazenovia (field hockey), plus CBA football quarterback Tyler Hamblin and two coaches from Fayetteville-Manlius - Bill Aris (cross country) and Phil Rudolph (girls tennis).
