One for the Books 2010
Our fund raiser aptly titled "One for the Books" was a great success we enthusiastically thank all those who participated. The event was a one evening book club combined with an elegant dinner and book discussion led by a distinguished moderator, or in some cases, the author of the book.
Attendees were asked to choose a book from a pre-determined list. There were 12 host homes and each home was associated with a title taken from that book list. Attendees were informed where they would be having dinner only after they had signed up for the book of their choice. There were over 100 attendees who all had wonderful dinners and lively book discussion at each of their host homes.
The grand finale took place after dinner at the Library for coffee and dessert. The buzz and excitement was electric as everyone shared what they had experienced at their dinners and book discussions.
Plans are afoot to repeat this truly unique and delightful event on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011. Save this important date as you really won't want to miss it.
Dickens Christmas Holiday Book Sale
Started during the Dickens Festival in 2009 the book sale that first year ran over two weekends only. The Friends of the Library decided to make it bigger and better for 2010 and this year the sale ran Saturdays and Sundays during the three Dickens weekends in December. In addition there were many more books available for purchase.
The Friends ran a book drive in October and November soliciting gently used donations with the slogan "Our Books are Well Read, Giving them is Green." In addition to being able to drop donations off at the library, people could also drop books off at Tops Market and at the YMCA Community Center and thank them for their support.
