SHS drama to stage a mystery within a mystery

What is better than a mystery within a mystery? Answer: One that is produced by the Skaneateles High School Drama Department. So, get ready to figure out "who dun what to who" as the Skaneateles High School Drama program presents the TONY Award Winning Musical Comedy Murder Mystery, "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" March 3, 4 and 5 in the Skaneateles High school Auditorium.

This wildly warm-hearted theatrical experience kicks off when the Music Hall Royale (a hilariously loony Victorian musical troupe) "puts on" its flamboyant rendition of the unfinished Dickens mystery. The story itself deals with John Jasper, a Jekyll-and-Hyde choirmaster, who is quite madly in love with his music student. She is the fair Miss Rosa Bud.

Now, Miss Bud is, in turn, engaged to Jasper's nephew, young Edwin Drood. Our title character disappears mysteriously one stormy Christmas Eve-but has Edwin Drood been murdered? And if so, then whodunnit?

Suspects include; Drood's fianc Rosa Bud (Gabrielle Whiting)...but does she truly love Drood?; John Jasper (Daniel Kringer), Drood's supposed faithful Uncle and Rosa's over-amorous and secretive teacher; Neville Landless (Jeffrey Kringer), an orphaned Englishman newly arrived from Ceylon who falls in love with Rosa. Helena Landless (Amelia O'Hara), Rosa's close friend and the overly protective twin sister of Neville; Rev. Crisparkle (Nicholas Kochan), who in another life loved Rosa's mother; Durdles (John Watt), the inebriated grave digger; and Princess Puffer (Leia Depeche), the queen of London's underworld who has a mysterious connection with the beautiful Rosa Bud.

"The Mystery of Edwin Drood" is a winner of five Tony awards including: Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Direction and Best Actor. Musical numbers include The Wage of Sin, Perfect Strangers, Both Sides of the Coin, Don't Quit While You're Ahead and Moonfall. The giddy playfulness of this play-within-a-play draws the audience toward one of Drood's most talked-about features; allowing the audience to vote on the solution as prelude to a most unusual and hilarious finale.

Audience members are able to purchase reserved tickets online by going to Showtix4u.com; or purchase tickets at the door at each each performance. The ticket price is $8 for students and seniorcitizens, and $10 for adults. All seats are reserved.
