continued Sheriff Kevin Walsh is asking for money to support the program from local counties, to which he says Air One responds only 3 percent of the time. Why should other local governments foot the bill for only 3 percent of calls? Of course, the Sheriff’s Office has also ramped up the publicity of calls in which Air One responds. Check out their website — every other press release is now an “in the air last night” memo, half of which, ironically, are outside of Onondaga County. If you’re going to ask for money from surrounding counties, perhaps you should admit to responding more than 3 percent of the time.
We can think of many other public services that could be strengthened, reinforced or reinstated with the money coming in to refund Air One after the county’s decision to defund the program.
