Fourteen B’ville students qualify for spelling bee

— On Nov. 16, the Baldwinsville Central School District held its Oral Spelling Bee Championship to determine 14 finalists for the Post Standard/WCNY Regional Spelling Bee, which will be given on Jan. 14.

Zoe Ricks, a seventh-grader at Ray Middle School, was crowned the champion of the district spelling bee. Lucien Jerome, a fifth-grader at McNamara Elementary School, placed second, and Miranda Hart and Colleen Magowan, both eighth-graders at Durgee Junior High School, tied for third place in the competition.

Besides the top four finalists, the other Baldwinsville students who have qualified to take the written test in January are: Nolan Murphy and Ryan Muscatello, Elden Elementary School; Bridget Brown, McNamara Elementary School; Patricia Conlan, William Grindle, Eliza McMahon, Alexander Milewski, and Madeline Saarie, Ray Middle School; and Mitchell Gage and Kyle Micho, Durgee Junior High School.
