Christian Brothers Academy would win twice, starting with a home match last Monday against Chittenango, and while each of the sets was close, the Brothers still swept the Bears 25-21, 27-25, 25-21.
Clare Gollegly finished with 13 assists, four kills and four blocks. Sophie Racciatti led the front line with nine kills, while Marisa Hamel had six kills, four aces and six digs. Kelly Bewley picked up 11 assists and four kills, with Becky Scullin contributing four kills and Meg Hannan adding six digs.
From there, the Brothers swept Hannibal 25-17, 25-13, 25-17 on Friday night. Bewley, with 10 assists, and Carly Hail, with eight assists, set up a front line where Kara Dell’uomo managed seven kills, while Toni Winderi and Gabby Carni contributed five kills apiece. Gollegly mixed in six aces and four assists.
Bishop Grimes won a five-set classic over Weedsport on Tuesday, twice rallying from behind. After losing the first set 25-22, the Cobras rolled to a 25-14 win in the second set, only to drop another 25-22 decision in the third set.
Two points from defeat in the fourth set, Grimes fought it off and prevailed, 26-24, and went on to win the fifth set 25-17. Taylor Bourdon had nine aces and 14 digs, while Mackenzie Thompson mixed in 11 kills and 11 aces. Alexis Verone had 10 kills and six digs as Abby Rogers set up points through her 24 assists.
