Christ is born! The manger scene from the 2010 production of King of Kings’ Living Nativity features Liverpool residents Lily Hogarbome as Jesus, Tyler Marquart as Joseph, Leah Dixon as Christ’s Angel, and Katie Krafft as Mary.
Baldwinsville King of Kings Lutheran Church will once again present an outdoor “Living Nativity” pageant, which will be held on the church grounds at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. This event is King of Kings’ Christmas gift to the community. Everyone is invited to attend this moving reenactment of the Christmas Story¬, the birth of the infant Jesus, as told in the Gospel of Luke.
The event, in its 16th year at King of Kings, is produced by KOK’s member and Baldwinsville resident, David Sokolowski, under the drama direction of KOK’s member and Liverpool resident, Sheirel Mordaunt. The first production, introduced in 1995 by KOK member and Baldwinsville resident, Marcy Grunder, was such a success, and so well received by members of the church and community, that it has become an annual event at King of Kings.
The script calls for no speaking parts, except for a narrator who will unfold the story of the biblical characters as portrayed by a number of young members from King of Kings. The audience is encouraged to sing along to some of history’s most cherished Christmas carols, including O Come All Ye Faithful, Away In A Manger and Silent Night. Both children and adults enjoy the use of animals during the performance, which adds to the flavor and authenticity of the event. The program includes a liturgical dance performed under black lights, which has become one of the highlights of the event.
The presentation is estimated to take between 25 and 30 minutes. Following the drama, attendees will be invited to join the cast members inside to enjoy a free meal of hot chili, hot soup, bread and desserts while being entertained by King of Kings’ brass choir as they perform a number of Christmas tunes.
King of Kings Lutheran Church is located at 8278 Oswego Road (Route 57) in Liverpool. For more information regarding the Living Nativity and the many other programs and ministries offered at King of Kings, call 622-2077.
