Support local events this Labor Day weekend

letter to the editor

There will be no lack of things to do this coming Labor Day Weekend. Get to the Great N.Y. State Fair before Sept. 2 because that’s when all the activities in Skaneateles heat up!

Friday, Sept. 2 ,you have your choice of attending First Friday in Skaneateles to see artists’ work at locations throughout the village, or attending the Skaneateles Festival Concert at the First Presbyterian Church.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, you can get inspired by watching the Skinnyman Triathalon sponsored by Skaneateles Labor Day Weekend Race Committee. It all starts at 7:30 a.m. in Clift Park: swimming, biking, and running! Come cheer the athletes on!

The Skinnyman will be all wrapped up just in time for you to head up to the Community Field Days at Austin Park. Ride the rides for one price from 1 to 4 p.m., or 7 to 10 p.m. Visit the classic car show or get some lunch, dinner or just an afternoon snack: steamed clams are back, brought to you by the Skaneateles Sons of the American Legion and the Skaneateles Rotarians.

New this year, Greenfield’s Sweet Corn, and of course the usual Field Days fare of sausage sandwiches (my favorite), the chicken barbecue, hamburgers or hot dogs and lots more. Anyela’s wine, beer and soda as well as sno-cones, and lots of other Fair food and drink also available. If you want to do a little competing of your own, get your team of family and friends together for Pushball at 4 p.m.

Saturday night you have two choices for great music: the finale of the Skaneateles Festival season at Brook Farm featuring Sari Gruber and the Chamber Festival Orchestra, or hometown favorites, The Dean Brothers at the Community Field Days under the stars at Austin Park.

Skanraces continue Sunday morning with the Escape from the Judge swim, the Coon Hill Grind Bike, and the Skaneateles Road Race right before the annual parade starting at 4 p.m.
