Red Cross provides assistance to family of five

— A Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter responded to a fire at 812 Onondaga Avenue Syracuse, Sunday morning.  The fire seriously damaged the single-family home.  The Disaster Action Team is providing immediate assistance to two adults and three children.

The Disaster Action Team (DAT) responds to local residential emergencies and disasters such as fire.  The Disaster Action Team is a group of volunteers trained in administering to the needs of victims of disasters.  The Red Cross typically provides disaster assistance in the form of temporary lodging, funds for meals and replacement clothing, assistance with emergency replacement of medications and emotional counseling and support as needed after each disaster.  Volunteers are always needed and those interested should contact the Director of Volunteers at (315) 234-2217 at the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter.
