Pedestrian dies after Lysander accident

— A man has died after being struck by a vehicle yesterday evening in the town of Lysander.

Just after 5 p.m. Aug. 22, Vincent Valenti, 77, of Split Rock Road in Syracuse, parked his pick-up truck and trailer halfway off of the road on the right shoulder of Route 370 west bound, just south of the Route 690 off ramp. Witnesses said Valenti was putting a riding lawn tractor on the trailer when he and his trailer were struck from behind by a Chrysler Sebring that was traveling west bound on Route 370. Valenti was transported by the Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corp to Upstate University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:59 p.m.

The driver of the Chrysler, Andrew Phillips, 23, of Mercer St. in Baldwinsville, was issued a ticket for driving on the shoulder of the roadway and insufficient tires. Phillips view may have been obstructed by the position of the sun at the time of the collision.

The Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Team is currently investigating the collision. Baldwinsville Fire Department and Plainville Fire Department were also on the scene of the collision.
