Baldwinsville The Syracuse Silver Knights will hold the club’s first set of open tryouts from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28 at the CNY Family Sports Centre in Van Buren. The tryouts are open to any player who may have what it takes to play for the Silver Knights in their inaugural season in the Major Indoor Soccer League.
The new MISL franchise is currently building its 2011-12 roster and is actively in negotiations with several current professional players and will be announcing signings in the upcoming weeks. The Silver Knights Team President and Head Coach Tommy Tanner is expecting that the open tryout will produce other players capable of making a difference for the side this season, as has been his experience in the past.
“I’ve seen many players who were good enough that tried out for the Rochester Rhinos and Cleveland Crunch,” Tanner said. “These players never had a chance because there just wasn’t enough space on those rosters based on the experienced and veteran players already under contract. Players have a great opportunity here because we are building a brand new roster. If a player is good enough to play professionally we will sign him right on the spot. At the open tryout for the Syracuse Salty Dogs, we signed Carlos Semedo the very next day."
Players at the open tryout will also get the opportunity to be invited back to an invitation-only training camp in mid-October prior to the start of the Silver Knights’ first training camp.
Registration materials can be found on the team website syracusesilverknights.com. The registration fee is $50 for those who pre-register or $65 at the door. All players will receive an official Silver Knights training shirt. If a player is signed, he will be refunded the fee. If a player is not signed, they may apply the fee towards a season ticket package.
