Volunteer Connections: Golden Harvest Fest, Oktoberfest seek help from community

— Do you have extra yarn and no plans to use it? Our Christmas Bureau knitters can put it to good use. Every year they lovingly knit hats, scarves and mittens, which are given to families in need. Yarn can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays at the Volunteer Center, located at 44 Oswego St., Baldwinsville.

Beaver Lake Nature Center’s Golden Harvest Festival is looking for volunteers to help out Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sunday, Sept. 11. This fun, two-day event needs many volunteers to help with everything from parking, serving food, set-up and clean-up, visitor information, guided walks, admission and helping with kids games and crafts. Teens, ages 14 and older, are especially needed to help with all the kids activities ─ this is a great way to get a jump on volunteer hours needed for school requirements.

Please contact Joan Veith at 638-2519 or email her at hiddenpond3@aol.com.

Another big community event needing volunteers is the Baldwinsville Oktoberfest, which is held from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 and from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Paper Mill Island. Many volunteers are needed to help with the 5k walk and run, movie night, family tent, admission entrance gate and selling beer tokens. If you would like to volunteer for a shift, please call Megan O’Donnell at 638-2050.

The Baldwinsville Volunteer Center will again be hosting a Volunteer Recruitment Fair from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 at the B’ville Public Library. This is a great way to explore all of the volunteer opportunities available here in our community and find the perfect match for you.

Nancy Conley is the executive director of the Baldwinsville Volunteer Center. Contact her at 638-0251.
