To the editor:
The board of directors, the staff of the Samaritan Center and the members of the Beach, Blues & Bar-B-Que steering committee together send a hearty thank you to all who supported this year’s August 7 event at Skaneateles Country Club.
We are thrilled that so many good people turned out to enjoy this annual fund raising effort, the proceeds of which enable the Samaritan Center to feed others, hungry men, women and children throughout the year. We netted over $46,000 in profit from the event. That money will provide 23,500 meals going forward.
Alan Coates and his family served as this year’s Honorary Chair Persons. We deeply appreciate their association and generous support.
Special thanks to the members of the steering committee who contributed their time, talent and treasure to help make the 2011 Beach, Blues & Bar-B-Que a success. This year committee members were: Lorne Elder, Danielle Fleckenstein, Mary Kendrick-Gaffney, Susan Meyer, Jacque McConnaghy, John O’Sullivan, Kathy Palmieri, Mark Rossi and Ellen Wilson.
To our bartender extraordinaire, Al Collela, again I ask, what would we do without you? To all of the other volunteers who shared their evening with us, your gift of time was invaluable.
CNY Healing Arts (Robert Kiltz, M.D.) was again the Presenting Sponsor; Welch Allyn and the other underwriters enhanced our success; Mary Buttolph provided her photographic skills to capture our memories; Joe Whiting and Loren Barrigar entertained us with their musical gifts; countless auction contributors magnified the revenue we received.
All in all, in these precarious economic times, our community soared in its response to raise the money needed to provide nutritious meals without preconditions to those least able to cope.
Lawrence Palmieri is chariman of the beach, blues and bar-b-que committee.
