Rev. Adrienne L. Phillips is the newly appointed senior pastor of Christ Community United Methodist Church in Van Buren.
Formerly serving churches in Rochester and Baltimore, Md., Phillips brings a background in urban ministry and missional initiatives with a focus on building bridges and relationships between urban and suburban ministries to the Syracuse area. In Rochester, she developed the successful model of the Friday Night Youth Cafe, a safe-haven for community youth. She is poised to develop similar models in the Syracuse area that can engage churches and community agencies in outreach programming.
Ordained by the American Baptist Churches USA, Rev. Phillips has been serving as an elder in the United Methodist Church since 2004 and refers to herself as “The Preacherwoman.” She is a member of the Leadership Team of the Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church, a former academic dean of the Community College of Baltimore County, Md., and holds the Master of Divinity Degree from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, with additional master degrees in human development and elementary education with a specialization in early childhood education.
