Skaneateles named in top 500 U.S. high schools

School receives highest ranking to date in annual Newsweek study

— Skaneateles was the only school in Onondaga County to make Newsweek's list, and one of only four in the central New York region. New Hartford Senior High School in Oneida County had the best ranking in the region at 171; Clinton High School in Oneida County ranked 423, and Hamilton High School in Madison County ranked 496.

This is the second national accolade for the Skaneateles School District in as many months.

In May, Skaneateles was named to the Best Communities for Music Education list by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation. That recognition acknowledged schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment to and support for music education in schools, based on funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and other relevant factors in their communities' music education programs.

It was the first time the district had applied for the NAMM award, and earned recognition out of more than 250 school districts.

Speaking of the recent national recognition of the Skaneateles district, D'Angelo said, "We are on a roll this year."
