East Syracuse mayor to run for county legislature

East Syracuse Mayor Danny Liedka will run for the Onondaga County Legislature in the newly-drawn 7th Legislative District.

Liedka said he will seek the Republican, Conservative and Independence Party nominations in the 7th, which includes much of the town of DeWitt as well as portions of the Eastwood and Sedgwick neighborhoods of the city of Syracuse. No incumbent currently resides in the district.

"These difficult times call for elected leaders with the discipline to seek out and eliminate wasteful government spending, so that we can cut property taxes and foster economic development," said Liedka, now serving his second term as Mayor. "In East Syracuse, I have passed four straight balanced budgets, without a single tax increase. I look forward to taking my fiscally conservative philosophy to Onondaga County government."

In addition to his part-time mayoral duties, Liedka, 42, currently serves as a sales executive with the Hilton Corporation. He is also an on-air sports announcer for Time Warner Cable Sports. He and his wife and their young son Luke make their home on McCool Avenue in East Syracuse.
