ARC of Oswego County has announced that Judith Bonanni of Baldwinsville is the winner of its Dr. John Readling Award for 2011. Bonanni will formally receive the honor at the ARC Annual Dinner Thursday May 12 at the Oswego Elks Club.
Oswego Industries, Inc. has employed Bonanni for the past 35 years. During that time, she has worked as a production line supervisor, an agency evaluator and currently as the non profit's intake coordinator. She engages strongly with each individual during the course of her work, and advocates for those programs and services that she believes will have the most positive impact for a person. She upholds the values of inclusion, productivity and positive recognition for each individual served by the agency.
As changes within the field and within the organization have occurred, Bonanni has risen to the challenge with courage and conviction, pushing past her personal comfort zone in her ongoing efforts to promote maximum independence and personal growth for individuals with disabilities. Her extensive knowledge of available programs has been invaluable in finding the right combination of supports for each person served; and her 'consumer-first' focus is a model for other advocates.
The Dr. John Readling Award is given annually to someone whose efforts have made a positive and significant difference in the lives of people with disabilities in Oswego County, as nominated by ARC of Oswego chapter members. Dr. Readling, who devoted many years and countless hours to such efforts, helped to shape ARC of Oswego County and its sister agency, Oswego Industries, Inc., into the fine organizations that daily help people with developmental disabilities, and mental or physical challenges.
